Make Your Rental Property A Home

 In Property Management

“Some people look for a beautiful place, others make a place beautiful.” – Kazrat Inayat Khan

Wether your rental is long-term or just a few months, it does not mean you can’t make it feel like your very own. Despite popular belief, you can put personal touches on your rental and make it your place of relaxation.

Here are a few personal touches we suggest:

Get Crafty

The amount of DIY crafts supplied by the internet these days is endless. You can add a fun DIY wreath to your font door to make it look more inviting, add special flare to your candles, or even refurnish a chair. These projects keep the family entertained and give your rental a unique touch.

Add a Splash of Color

If you have permission by a landlord or property manager, we suggest adding a splash of color that speaks to you. Reds and yellows can warm a living room, and blues and greens can offer a soft relaxing feel. Lowe’s and Home Depot also offer fun wall decals and removable wall paper to give a room just an extra bit of flare.

Go Green

Plants are an excellent way to give your apartment a homey touch. You can pick up live plants from your local greenhouse, or even fake plants if you prefer less maintenance. You can simply add a little life to the room, make a floral centerpiece, or get crafty and try something unique with your flora. Again, the DIY options online are limitless.

Put Up a Portrait

Say goodbye to the sterile walls and start putting up your families pictures. Nothing makes your home feel more like yours than seeing all your loved ones around you. You can also do fun frames of the children’s artwork, or a pets footprint. Adorable heart warming quotes can also be found online, or made yourself to put up around the house. Find something that speaks for your family, and we guarantee you will have a smile on your face every time you walk by it.

Be sure before doing anything major, you contact your landlord or property manager to see what changes and personal touches are allowed. Making changes without their knowledge can damage a relationship and cost you your security deposit. Many rental contracts will clearly state the changes you can make to the rental, which can include painting walls, painting the kitchen, altering the floor, and removing kitchen cabinets. Make sure for whatever changes are approved, you receive handwritten confirmation.
